Kalyana veetu Sambar



Ingredients
Serves 3

List 1
Bengal gramdhal -1 tsp
Urad dhal -1 tsp
Fenugreek(methiseed) - 1/4 tsp
Coriander seed -1 tbs
Dry red chilly - 2
Asafoetida - 1/4 tsp
Shredded coconut - 2tbs
Curry leaves - 10 leaves
Coconut oil - 1tsp

List 2
Tuvar dhal - 1/2 cup
Turmeric powder - 1/4 tsp
Onion sliced - 1
Tomato - 2 chopped
Tamarind paste - 1 tsp
Drumsticks - 2



Heat coconut oil and add all the ingredients given in List 1 one by one. Roast the coconut until brown. Turn off the gas. Let it cool and grind to paste with very little water. Meanwhile cook dhal in pressure cooker by adding 2 cups of water, turmeric powder and salt. When Dhal is half done add the vegetables. Once the vegetables are cooked, add the ground paste and tamarind paste, boil it. Season it with mustard, onion, tomato, curry leaves. Goes well with rice, idli, dosa and vadas.
